Below are tributes and prayers created by children in Year 5H. Our thoughts are with you and your family Mandela.
Nelson Mandela Seriously Ill by K. Perry and J. April Nelson Mandela is ninety four years old and is very sick with a lung infection. It keeps coming back and he keeps having to go to hospital for treatment. Everybody is concerned not just in South Africa, but all over the world. He was sent to the hospital of Pretoria at 1:30 am on Saturday morning June 7th. He has now been in hospital for 6 days. The government recently said “he is in a serious but stable condition”. Rainbow Hill Christian School sang words of encouragement. “We love you Mandela… we love you Mandela get well, get well” school children sang outside the icon's home in hopes that his health would improve. Almost all of the people in the world see him as a hero and he is one of the most famous people on the planet. Who is Nelson Mandela? Mr. Mandela (also called 'Madiba' after a South African tribe) was elected president of South Africa in the country's first democratic elections. He spent 27 years of his life in prison after protesting against the way South Africa was ruled, a system called 'apartheid' which kept white and black people apart. It meant that black people in South Africa had fewer rights and couldn't vote. White people controlled what jobs black people could have and even where they lived. Mandela is now seen as being responsible for helping to end apartheid. A spokesman for the political party he led, the ANC, described how important Mandela is. "Madiba is the personification of humanity, friendship, honesty, integrity. He means all of these things to us", Jackson Mthembu said. "Without the calibre of Madiba's leadership, the likelihood is that South Africa would have gone to ruins ...He not only spoke to everyone, but spoke reason to everyone. That will be the legacy of Madiba." President Jacob Zuma says he’s getting better, South Africa is praying every day and the whole world hopes Zuma is right. Running Wild by M. Moore On the 10th June between the hours of four and five, a horse was seen galloping through Lane’s horse riding stables. It came from the main road, so the group must have been out riding. The horse had no rider, so it meant that he or she had fallen off. My friends and I were shocked and my riding teacher called someone to fetch the horse. When we finished our lesson I saw a girl walking next to a bunch of horses, so hopefully she was alright.k here to edit. Kirsty the new designer by M. Scheffers

A mother of three, is still recovering after a horrific fall off a ten meter bridge (on a bicycle) in Tokai Forest. It happened in early April on a warm spring day, with lots of other cyclists around. The victim says “Fortunately I was wearing a helmet. I think that might of saved my life.” It appears that after the accident, the helmet was so badly damaged, Tessa had to throw it away and buy a new one. Despite wearing a helmet, Tessa hurt her head and neck, although x-rays show no permanent injuries. |
